Learning at homešŸ”

Homeschooling is fun and very rewarding both for the parent and the kid, especially during early years, when all a kid needs is parents and their attention.

Homeschooling will never be a mainstream method for educating masses though, solely because it is dependent on the quality of parents and the resources they can afford.

That is the reason it might not be for families where both parents are working.

If a parent is willing, intelligent and passionate about teaching their kids, it is perhaps the best educational delivery method, because it is highly focused and customised.

Homeschooling strengthens the parental bonding. It should be done in such a manner that kids look forward to learning, not escaping from it-   after all who wants to learn from a grumpy pushy parent?

However, homeschooling can get challenging on top of regular housework, it can lead to stress and fatigue, but on the other hand, it gives you immense freedom as you are not bound by a fixed schedule, you can recreate the schedule and relax.

Socialization is another thing which is of concern to parents, but in my opinion home schooled kids are as social if not more, they are more mature because they don’t spent all of their time listening to the kids, they talk and work with adults, so they are more tuned to real life than school kids; as far as mingling with kids goes there are plenty of opportunities in playground/park and independent classes like music, dance, skating etc.

Some parents say it is necessary to expose kids to unpleasant experiences like bullying that happen in the school, they argue it prepares them for life, but I believe bullying and unpleasantness should not happen at any stage in life, and exposing kids to bullying is not like vaccination for future protection. Exposure to bullying in school does not help kids in any way, on the contrary they might learn wrong coping mechanisms due to their limited experience and thinking.

I believe many kids choose not to share these bullying episodes with their parents and teachers but develop their own coping mechanisms which might harm them more at that time and in the future too.

Also homeschooling is not just passion, it is more of execution. You should be able to research, put in hard work and love it above all especially as your kids grow. You need to learn and relearn with your kids.

*Homeschooling is not necessary and it might not be the best choice for many parents, but I know it also might be the best choice for many, for at least some years of schooling and I wish there was more support for people who want to do things differently. After all there are many ways we can solve 69+79 we can add 60 plus 70 and then add 18 to it to get 148 . or we can add 70 plus 80 and then subtract 2 from it to get the same answer. See, many different ways of doing the same thing.
